Product Details

SKU Code: SUB/PVD/B/A

This military specification diver's watch, finished in a covert black PVD, is one of our current models. It features a ceramic bezel and a scratch and shatter-resistant sapphire crystal with a non-reflective coating. Powered by an automatic (self-winding) 24-jewel movement with a 41-hour power reserve, this watch offers exceptional value for its high specifications.

The special matte black non-reflective PVD finish used for this watch is often specified in military contracts for special forces units, anti-terrorist units, and various covert operations. The PVD process creates the color through a special chemical plating method, vastly superior to the painted finish found on some lower-quality watches, which can easily fade or rub off. This PVD process alters the color of the steel at a molecular level, ensuring it remains intact even during heavy usage, though it can be damaged if the case is gouged by metal or worn down by continuous heavy abrasion against rocks.

This watch uses the same 20mm NATO strap as most other military diver's watches, providing access to a wide array of different straps to suit your personal taste.

Benefits of Sapphire Crystal

Many customers inquire about the advantages of sapphire crystal over standard mineral crystal. Synthetic sapphire is the best material for watch crystals due to its strength, shatter resistance, and scratch resistance. These characteristics make it ideal for military and security personnel, police officers, and individuals with active outdoor lifestyles, who comprise over 70% of our customers. When accidents result in cracked crystals, over 90% involve watches with mineral glass crystals. Even with hardened mineral crystals, they do not compare to sapphire for durability under adverse conditions.

Sapphire crystals are strong because the sapphire glass is heat-treated to remove internal stresses, which can cause weakness. After manufacturing, the sapphire glass is made into watch crystals, and two layers of anti-reflective coating are applied. Interestingly, sapphire crystal is now used on the latest iPhones. Despite its higher cost, sapphire crystal is typically found only in higher-end watches.
