MWC 300m Quartz Military Diver’s Watch with Black PVD Case and Bracelet

Combining a classic military dial with modern materials, this MWC diver’s watch features a Swiss Ronda day/date movement, sapphire crystal and a matching black PVD stainless steel bracelet. Its uncluttered dial, luminous hands and markers, and 300m water resistance make it a practical choice for everyday wear and demanding outdoor use.

MWC manufactured the original version from the early 1990s until 2004. Although the dial evolved during that period, the 1999–2001 pattern proved particularly popular for its clear layout and excellent readability in low light. This model retains that distinctive design, replacing the original tritium illumination with non-radioactive Luminova.

Rediscovered and Reintroduced

The decision to revive this watch followed an unexpected discovery by an MWC distributor in Australia. During a detailed stock check, the distributor’s son found 500 unused watches manufactured between 1999 and 2001 for a procurement contract.

MWC was offered the opportunity to buy back the watches. Their popularity encouraged us to reintroduce the design, preserving its original character while upgrading key components.

Modern Upgrades

The current model incorporates several improvements over its predecessor:

Sapphire crystal: Replaces the original hardened mineral glass, providing excellent scratch resistance and lasting clarity.

120-click bezel: Offers finer adjustment than the earlier 60- or 90-click versions.

Swiss Ronda 517 movement: Provides day/date functionality and a nominal battery life of approximately 45 months.

Black PVD Case and Bracelet

The stainless steel case and matching bracelet feature a satin black PVD finish, giving the watch a subdued appearance with reduced reflections.

PVD—Physical Vapour Deposition—creates a thin, strongly bonded coating on the metal surface. It offers excellent wear resistance and a durable alternative to conventional painted finishes.

As with any surface coating, PVD can show wear through prolonged use or contact with abrasive materials such as rock or concrete.

A Classic Military Diver’s Design

The case closely follows the established pattern associated with Swiss case manufacturer MRP S.A.. With roots in the late 1970s, this distinctive design has a long history in military and professional diving watches.

Related case patterns have appeared in watches from brands including Precista, Nilax, Elvia, Heuer and CWC. Well-known examples include the Heuer 844-1 and the Chronosport Sea Quartz 30, famously worn by Tom Selleck in Magnum, P.I.

This MWC model draws on that heritage and the practical design principles of British Ministry of Defence diver’s watch specifications.

Why Sapphire Crystal?

Sapphire offers excellent scratch resistance, helping the crystal remain clear through regular use. The anti-reflective coating reduces reflections and improves dial visibility in changing light conditions.

These qualities make sapphire a valuable upgrade for a watch intended for military, professional and outdoor use. Although highly scratch-resistant, sapphire can still chip or crack under a severe impact.
